A Godlike Race

December 5, 2010

I can no longer say life will survive

Here or somewhere far beyond the seas,

Is man an island now, a desert soul

Stranded between the worlds of love and hate

Who cannot shore the shackles of the past.

I have seen the Way, though dimly lighted now

As this world spins unconsciously towards death,

And warring man triumphs in his greed.

No longer can I say all will be well

Though certainly a counterforce at work

Prevents the holocaust our darkness wills.

And so I live to learn and lose not hope

Yet see destruction rampaging and sense

That in the balance hangs this lovely earth

So charged with beauty and a stamp divine.

Is there still time to root the evil out

Of human hearts who welcomed malice in,

Arise and vanquish falsehood, conquer death,

And a new creation rise amidst the old,

Or will all break, the animal man destruct

And a godlike race on this fair earth descend.
